Technical details how the pictures were scanned and stored in Archives

Color pictures were taken by Pentax K-1000 camera with SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50 mm, Phase 2 CCT (?) 1:4 70-200 mm, and JCPenney 1:2.8 28 mm lenses. Black and white pictures were taken by a Russian camera Zenith E.

The pictures were scanned from 4 x 6 or 3.5 x 5 color prints with 150 DPI resolution and with sharpening filter. Resulting images have size approximately 880 x 580 x 16 Million (from 4 x 6 prints) or 840 x 510 x 16 Million (from 3.5 x 5 prints). The images were saved in JPEG format with medium quality option (3, using Photo Shop on Mac or 6 on PC). They occupy 100 KB in average (between 60 and 300 KB).

Pictures are stored in about ninety directories corresponding to the total number of developed rolls of film (rolls were numbered in chronological order).

Reduced-size slides were created from original images by executing Mathematica program. (it crops original images to square, resizes them to 360x360 pixels and surrounds by a frame). Pictures were indexed by another Mathematica program. For each slide, a HTML-document was created by means of a Mathematica program (it scans directories, extracts picture captions and composes individual HTML-documents with linked pictures). Captions are stored in captions.txt data files. Links were inserted automatically from links.txt data file (the list of links can be viewed). Background color hue was set to an average hue of the picture, luminosity was set to 1/4, and saturation to square root of saturation of the picture. For more maintenance programs, see this directory.

Relatively few pictures were selected, saved into a separate directory (with higher compression), and were provided with captions. Technical details how the pictures were selected and stored are available too.

Image viewer for full size pictures was copied from "Web Gallery of Art" web page.
